Stadium of Light installs Fortress' Smart Stadium Solution
16.09.2009
The Stadium of light, home to Sunderland Athletic Football club, is the latest UK club to upgrade to the Fortress Smart Stadium Solution. Sunderland’s fans are now able to benefit from reduced queing times at turnstiles, safer, and more convenient entry into the stadium.
Built in 1997, the stadium of light has gained a respectable reputation and is considered to be one of the most advanced stadiums in the north of the country. In its strive to maintain its reputation, Sunderland AFC has fitted the Fortress TR-110 readers all around the stadium. These state of the art readers feature at each of the 74 turnstiles, making access into the venue fully automated.
Sunderland’s Marketing and commercial director Lesley Callaghan has stated that the club “wants [fans] to get the maximum from their matchday experience, so this was a great opportunity to make entry into the stadium faster, more convenient, and safer.”
While the system holds clear advantages to supporters and fans, the clubs themselves are also able to benefit from an array of services that are made available through the Fortress multi-application smart card.
These services are varied and provide clubs with the potential to enhance their CRM, reward member fans through a loyalty scheme, introduce a stadium-wide cashless ‘e-purse’ system and many more.
