Middlesbrough FC launch innovative smartcard membership scheme

Middlesbrough FC are extending their use of the Fortress Smart Stadium solution by launching a multi-tiered membership scheme for their fans. Last season Fortress Smart Cards were used by Season Ticket holders as their season card. But with the launch of "Boro Pride" this season, the wider fan base will be able to receive a personalised card with a whole host of additional benefits. Middlesbrough is hoping to make paper tickets a thing of the past.
The key benefits for fans of the scheme are:
- Discounted Match tickets (discount varies with age)
- Priority purchase of tickets for home, away & Cup games
- No booking fee for home games booked via phone or online
- Free admission to Boro's reserve team home games
- Special invite's to events and training sessions
A "Boro Pride" card for the 2008-09 season is priced just £ 10 for adults and over 65s and just £ 5 for under-18s and those aged 18-21.
Middlesbrough Football Club's COO Neil Bausor see's the "Boro Pride" card as a key step in engaging with their fan base in a more active and meaningful way. The scheme is not only a more cost effective way for a fan to support the Club but also improves their match day experience.
Peter Smith, Fortress Club Account Manager, puts the launch of Boro Pride into a wider context - "more and more Clubs are looking at the Fortress technology not just as a means of accessing people into the stadium. Clubs are seeking to identify and engage with their total fan base in new and innovative ways. The Fortress stadium solution enables them to do this. As more fans move to a smartcard (season/member), we are able to switch on additional applications on these cards. Such applications include e-money (cashless stadiums), loyalty & rewards, promotions (coupons/discounts), parking, hospitality vouchers, seat upgrades amongst others. The member card is becoming the prime tool for fans to interact and manage their support of the Club.
